Habitat: West Cascades widely but thinly distributed from valley bottoms to mountain forests, occasionally in old orchards and riparian hardwood forests (where it is the most common Bryoria species); east Cascades an old-growth associate, most often found in moist older forests at lower elevations.
Substrate: On bark of hardwoods and conifers, rarely on rocks.
