Habitat: Most common in moist riparian forests at low elevations, usually below 1000 m, from the coast to valleys and foothills in the Cascades; northward into British Columbia and Alaska increasingly restricted to near the coast.
Substrate: Most frequent on Alnus rubra, but also on other hardwoods, occasional on conifers.
