Overview

Synopsis: Appressed to suberect, puffy lobes, with laminal soredia, abundant budding and adventitious branching; medulla P+ orange red.
Distribution: Endemic to Pacific coast of western North America. Alaska to Oregon, w Cas, with rare inland disjuncts in BC
Habitat: temperate oceanic forests
Range: Pacific Northwest Immediate Coast, Pacific Northwest
Other Diagnostics: Upper cortex often eroding to expose blackish medulla, similar to H. pseudophysodes. Soralia sometimes flaking schizidia at the edges.
Substrate Notes: On hardwoods and conifers
